Homemade Halloween Tortilla Chips

Happy Halloween! I used  my Cricut Cake machine and a stack of round tortilla shells to cut Halloween shapes. I then placed the cut shapes onto a baking pan, salted them and then baked them into chips. I love this idea and will do it with other shapes for other upcoming holidays. For Halloween shapes use the October 31st Cartridge.

Halloween Cookies and Pasta

For an afternoon project with the kids we baked Halloween sugar cookies and pushed bugs into the raw dough to make impressions, then added orange and yellow sprinkles. I am so grateful I have two bug loving girls!

For dinner we made a batch of Halloween bat and pumpkin pasta.

Halloween T-Shirt Yarn Wreath

As my t-shirt yarn kick continues I created a two layer wreath using ribbon and t-shirt yarn. I love Halloween and one can never have too many wreaths hanging around. I think it might be time to investigate some table top wreath stands.

Halloween Cupcake Stand

A few months ago I picked up a crappy, plastic, cupcake stand kit at Target on clearance knowing something would come of it. Out came the spray paint this past weekend and I knew just what needed a coat. I assembled the stand and spray painted it black. After it dried I glued orange velvet flower ribbon to the edges. Now it is time to get to baking so I can fill it up with some devilish desserts.

Burtonesque Gourd

I picked this plain gourd up last year at a day after Christmas sale at Pottery Barn. I have had it rolling around my studio since then and finally the inspiration came to me for how I wanted to paint it. I went to the Tim Burton show at LACMA this summer and was so inspired by his imagination and characters. Thanks to my friends Jill and Scott for taking us. I channeled Tim Burton for this wonky little guy that now inhabits my dried gourd.

Halloween Hounds-tooth Wreath

I created this Halloween Hounds-tooth Wreath by wrapping a grapevine wreath with black ribbon. I then used purple velvet ribbon and black and white hounds-tooth ribbon cut on an angle and glued them to the bottom. For the skulls I used the top of plastic rings that I found at the dollar store and spray painted them black and white. I added more ribbon at the top to hang it from and now I have it to enjoy for this,  my favorite holiday.

Halloween Costume on a Stick

I used my Gypsy, my Cricut and several different cartridges to create a fun cheater Halloween costume idea. I cut shapes out of different colored card stock and attached them to wooden BBQ skewer sticks with glue. They will sit in the vase for party goers to pick up, hold up to their faces and play a character. This is a great thing to have around at your Halloween party for those cheaters who think they are going to get out of wearing a costume. Ha – we’ve got that covered!

Here are where each of the cuts came from.

Mustache: Bump in the Night Cartridge

Glasses: Forever Young Cartridge

Kissing Lips: Love Struck Cartridge

Bow Tie: Paper Doll Dress-up Cartridge

Jack-O-Lantern Mouth: October 31st Cartridge

Vampire Teeth: Pumpkin Carving Cartridge

Halloween Crafting

I love Halloween. I always have and I think it is because it doesn’t require stressful family time, it is all about dressing up and acting like a character. Orange is also my favorite color so that gives and edge to the holiday for me. I am going to start posting several new Halloween projects but I thought I’d take a minute to kick off the 2011 season by revisiting Halloween projects from last year.  Click HERE to see some great ideas from 2010.

Halloween Already? Yup!

The other day I was at a grocery store and saw a display for Halloween Candy and thought “whoa it’s way too early for that!” I went home and thought more about it and the desire for Halloween, my favorite holiday, crept in. So I too surrendered, with the full knowledge that it’s still just August but why not start making goodies for Halloween? So with the new Cricut Hello Thursday Chic and Scary Cartridge I grabbed my Cricut vinyl in Raven Black, black T-Shirt yarn and an old beat up piece of barn wood and created a “BEWARE” sign. I love it and I love when I can make things that are both Chic and Scary!
