As the tee-shirt yarn obsession continues, I have found another use for its fabulousness. I bought my smallest daughter a cool wooden orange fox pull toy at a thrift store but the pull was missing. I could have just tied a string to it and called it good but I decided to take three different colors of tee-shirt yarn, tie them together at the top, braid all three strands and then tie to the pull toy. So cute I just love it! If she could talk I think she would tell you she loves it too.

I will be writing a weekly piece at the Phoenix New Times Chow Bella here is the tag line: Every week, artist, writer and cook Cyndi Coon will bring you an idea for making the most of what you’ve already got in the pantry or the fridge. Ladies and gentlemen, we introduce the Thrifty Cook.
This week the Thrifty Cook (that’s me) offers a blueberry crisp recipe to use up the five pound box of blueberries I bought on a whim at Costco. Head over to the Phoenix New Times Chow Bella Site to read all about it: click here.

Since I had some left over mascarpone in the fridge from another recipe so I thought I should use it up. I made some delicious lemon cupcakes and frosted them with the mascarpone and topped with slivered almonds and drizzled with honey. Yum! My baking studio is getting a lot of use these days. I am sweating anyway so I might as well bake! Click here for the Lemon Cupcake Recipe

Oh what fun I had making tee-shirt yarn this week. I also made many projects out of the yarn but I will save those for another post. Making tee-shirt yarn is such a great way to recycle dingy tees from your own collection or take advantage of dollar days at your local thrift store. I personally super deluxe love to thrift shop. On those days when I don’t have anything in particular in mind to hunt for I’ll often just pick up mens’ extra large tees and cut them into yarn when I return to my studio.

This post should have begun months ago when my mom received a new Gypsy for Christmas and didn’t know how to use it. She asked me to play with it and tell her the basics. I didn’t jump right on it for her let’s just say! Then I got my own Gypsy and the need to know was real. So last week she and I sat down and went item by item. We watched the Gypsy videos online and that helped as a start. As we explored I wrote step by step notes for her so she could operate her new toy when I was not available on speed dial! So I thought – I bet there are other folks out there who could use some notes in simple terms too, since the down-loadable owners manual is a little how shall we say it, written by technicians who don’t “play”! So here are the Gypsy How To Notes
